The Sam Houston State University Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Jerome Stover and Dr. Henry Howey, is dedicated to showcasing the expressive capabilities of the tuba and euphonium through dynamic performances and innovative repertoire. Founded in 1996 by Henry Howey and Robert Daniel, the ensemble was inspired by the renowned Eastman Trombone Choir led by Emory Remington. Its mission is to foster musical growth, chamber music experience, and camaraderie among low brass musicians.
In 2023, the ensemble proudly made its debut at the 50th International Tuba Euphonium Conference (ITEC) held at Arizona State University, marking a significant milestone in its performance history. The group continues to be a vital part of SHSU’s musical community, performing annually at Octubafest and contributing to the North Houston Tuba Christmas celebration.
The ensemble has also appeared at Regional ITEA conferences and the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, consistently promoting the versatility and artistry of the tuba and euphonium beyond their traditional roles.
The Sam Houston State University tuba euphonium ensemble would like to perform a program consisting of both transcriptions as well as original works.
