Itzhak Corona, a tuba player from Rio Grande City, Texas, is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at Oklahoma State University. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he performed with the Wind Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra. Through these experiences, he cultivated a strong foundation in both ensemble and solo performance, developing a refined and expressive approach to his instrument.
Raised in a musically devoted family, Corona is the son of two retired band directors whose dedication to music education deeply influenced his artistic and personal growth. Immersed in music from an early age, he developed a profound appreciation for collaboration and community through performance. He continues to value these ideals, frequently performing with his brother and engaging in a wide range of musical settings.
In addition to his classical focus, Corona occasionally explores jazz performance, further expanding his stylistic versatility. His artistry is shaped by a balance of discipline, curiosity, and an enduring respect for diverse musical traditions.
As part of his graduate studies, Corona is developing a project centered on performing and promoting works by Mexican-born composers and artists. This endeavor seeks to expand the tuba repertoire, foster cultural representation, and bring greater awareness to the musical contributions of Mexican composers within academic and concert settings.
Corona has performed at notable events including the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, the International Tuba Euphonium Conference, and the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop. With a dedication to both performance and education, he strives to embody the musical excellence and vibrant cultural heritage of South Texas.
