BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Yu-Hsin Teng, a native of Taiwan, is a collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and chamber musician currently based in Central Texas. She serves as Assistant Professor and Vocal Collaborative Pianist at Texas Lutheran University, and as Vocal Collaborative Pianist at Texas State University. She is also a Teaching Artist with Austin Opera, and an active collaborative pianist for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and Choir Pianist at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin.
Dr. Teng earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was awarded the Butler Excellence Scholarship and served as a Teaching Assistant. She received her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from Boston University as a recipient of the Ludwig Bergmann Memorial Scholarship.
An active performer in opera, art song, and chamber music, she has served as pianist coach and rehearsal pianist for William Lewis School of Opera and has collaborated in productions including Die Fledermaus and La Périchole. She has performed extensively for competitions, festivals, and artist series concerts throughout Texas and beyond, including regional and chapter auditions for NATS. In 2023, she was selected for the prestigious NATS Intern Program as one of only four collaborative pianists nationwide and as pianist coach for the Music On Site Young Artist Program. She also joined the faculty of Cormont Horn Camp in 2024.
Her recent performance engagements include appearances at the Blanton Museum of Art, the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin, Austin Public Library in collaboration with Austin Opera, the Cohen New Works Festival at UT Austin, and faculty concerts at Cormont Horn Camp and South Texas College. She has also been featured on KMFA 89.5 radio broadcasts.
Internationally, she has performed in Taiwan, Italy, and the United States, including appearances at Conservatorio di Musica “F. Morlacchi” di Perugia and Conservatorio di Musica di Brescia. She was a full-scholarship participant at SongFest in 2019 and 2022 and has collaborated in world premiere performances, including works presented at the San Francisco Conservatory.
In addition to her performance career, Dr. Teng is dedicated to mentorship and education. As a Teaching Artist with Austin Opera, she brings opera outreach programming to schools across Central Texas. She maintains active professional memberships with the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the International Keyboard Collaborative Arts Society.
