BIOGRAPHY
The San Antonio Brass Band contributes to the cultural life of San Antonio, Bexar County and the state of Texas through high level music making and brass education. The group is conducted by internationally renowned euphonium soloist and conductor Dr. Matthew Mireles, and is comprised of local professional musicians, university and public-school instructors, freelance musicians, and talented amateurs and students.
Each season, the San Antonio Brass Band performs a series of concerts with programs that include British-style marches, classical transcriptions, "pop" literature, as well as pieces composed specifically for brass bands and brass band competitions. Every Spring, the band travels to compete against the finest brass bands of the United States and Canada at the North American Brass Band Championships. In 2018, the SABB was the first ever Texas band to attend NABBA and won 1st Place in the First Section.
Other notable performances include at the International Trumpet Guild Convention, Texas Brass Festival, and the U.S. Brass Invitational. The San Antonio Brass Band has also accompanied and collaborated with world renowned artists including Philip Smith, Tom Hutchinson, David Childs, Michael J, Garasi, and more.
