BIOGRAPHY

Taylor Carrell holds a BME from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and is currently studying for his MM at Northwestern State University under Dr. Masahito Kuroda. Taylor’s research focuses on the works of American composer Rule Beasley with efforts toward performance and publication of said works. Taylor has conducted an interview in April 2025 with Beasley on the composer’s biography and is preparing for another interview with the composer this November which will focus on his compositions. Taylor has begun cataloguing Beasley’s original works and arrangements and looks forward to incorporating a complete works list of Beasley’s original compositions into his master’s paper entitled “Performance considerations and analysis of Rule Beasley’s ‘Concerto for Tuba’ and ‘Quintet for Brass’” which will be accessible via Northwestern State University this May. Taylor is currently preparing his research for presentation at the Louisiana Music Educators Association conference in January. Taylor has performed as a soloist on contemporary programs hosted at Northwestern State and directed by Paul Christopher on composers such as Mauricio Kagel and Elliott Carter. He has also been a member of the NSU Brass Quintet for several years, performing works by Ewald, Marquez, and Ewazen. Taylor is currently preparing to perform Beasley’s “Concerto for Tuba” with the NSU Wind Symphony and will present a concert of Beasley works for his graduate recital. Both events will be held in the Spring at Northwestern State University.
